frequently asked questions:
Pre-Camp:
My child has never done theater, is that a problem? No! Theater camp is a great way to introduce kids to performing arts! We encourage campers of all skillsets to sign up. This is what KIDS shows are made for!
When is the latest that I can sign my child up for camp? Camp signups will be open until the Saturday before the camp begins, unless all 35 slots are taken. Signing up a child late may result in them not being able to get a camp t-shirt in time.
Do I have to pay the full amount right away? A non-refundable $40 deposit per child, per camp, is required to save all spots. You will pay the deposit when registering and then we'll invoice the remaining total via paypal invoice, you can pay immediately or wait until it is convenient for you. All payments are due in full by June 1st or enrollment will be forfeited. Sign ups after June 1st have to be paid in full at the time of registration.
What is your refund policy?
• 100% refund (minus deposit) if registration is cancelled 2 weeks from the start date of the camp.
• 50% refund (minus deposit) if registration is cancelled 1 week from the start of the camp
• 25% refund (minus deposit) if registration is cancelled before the first day of a camp.
• No refunds will be given once a camp has begun.
• No refund is available if a child is removed from camp due to behavioral issues. NSPA staff will use their own discretion on refund amount if a cancellation is made due to family or medical emergencies.
During Camp:
Will my child have to come every day and stay the entire day? Yes. We understand that campers may get sick, or have to leave early for appointments, but please try to limit absences. The thing that makes NSPA camps awesome is that throughout the week we are working to learn music, choreo, and staging for our performance on Friday. If a camper is missing lots of instruction, it could put them behind and result in them not being in the show as much.
How is the cast list determined? Each week our campers will go through a real audition just as they would in a real show! There is no preparation needed as the entire group will learn the dances and songs together, then do their group and solo auditions in front of one another. We encourage a supportive audition environment where everyone cheers and claps! Our counselors will also be nearby for support! A cast list is emailed out Monday night. Music will be emailed out a week early for the kids that want to start learning it, and scripts will be given to campers on Monday.
Will my child have to perform in the actual show? We will never force a kid into an uncomfortable situation, but we will encourage them as much as possible to participate in the show, as we do not have a separate track for kids that don't want to perform (yet!). We have had campers help with props and costumes in the past, but we encourage them to participate in the show as well as they wouldn't have much to do each day during our rehearsal periods.
What will they need to bring / wear on a daily basis? They should wear comfortable clothing, closed-toed shoes, and bring water. Students are expected to bring a packed lunch and snack everyday. They should also bring their script (that they'll receive on the Monday of camp) back to camp every day. If we plan to do extra activities that require a change of clothes (painting, water balloons, etc.) we'll let parents know via email.
Will you just rehearse the show all day? No! We have tons of other activities we do throughout the day. While prepping for the show is our number one goal, we also do other things such as lip-sync battles, water balloon fights, talent shows, trivia, and more!
Will I be updated throughout the day? Yes! While we do not update each parent on their individual children, we update each day via Instagram and Facebook. The best way to keep up is to follow us on Instagram and watch our story throughout the day!
Will I have to purchase a costume? No, we may ask that campers bring in costume pieces from home, but it wouldn't be anything they don't already have, such as black pants or a specific colored shirt. We have had parents in the past buy their kids extra costume pieces because they wanted to, but that is not a requirement at all.
Are masks required? Do they perform in the mask? We require all campers, counselors, and parents to wear a mask. We recommend a disposable mask, as they are breathable while still offering protection. Face shields, clear masks, and neck gators are not permitted as daily camp wear. We will perform the shows in clear masks provided by NSPA. We are not staging our shows to be socially distanced, and respect anyone's choice not to participate as a result. We are not requiring campers to be vaccinated.
Can I film the final performance ? How many people can attend? Due to COVID-19 restrictions, and limited space. Each child will only be given a certain amount of tickets. This number will depend on enrollment size. For example, if a week of camp is sold out, each child may only receive 2 tickets, but if our registration is 60% full, we may be able to accommodate 3-4 patrons per child. Parents are allowed to film snippets of the performance, but please do not video the entire show.
