“We’re Parents Too”
NSPA was created by parents, and parents remain actively involved in day-to-day operations. The safety of children (ours and yours) is our top priority, which is why we enthusiastically adopted the United Methodist Church’s “Safe Sanctuary” policy for all NSPA-sponsored activities. A summary of the policy is provided below:
In addition, all board members and teenage counselors over 16 years of age shall be trained in “Steward of Children” training provided by the Memphis Child Advocacy Center.
- All adults should be background checked and trained in Safe Sanctuaries procedures around child abuse prevention.
- A minimum of two non-related adults will supervise each group of youth.
- All adults should be at least 18 years of age and at least 5 years older than the youth being supervised.
- At least one adult at the event should be certified in CPR and First Aid and prepared to provide medical care within the scope of their certification.
- Youth should be checked into and out of the event.
In addition, all board members and teenage counselors over 16 years of age shall be trained in “Steward of Children” training provided by the Memphis Child Advocacy Center.
